The exam

What is the AB-100 exam?

AB-100 is the Microsoft Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect credential — the senior-architect exam for designing, deploying, and governing agentic-first business solutions across the full Microsoft AI stack: Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Dynamics 365 Copilot, and Power Platform AI. AB-100 covers planning AI-powered business solutions (ROI analysis, multi-agent strategy), designing agents and orchestration (task / autonomous / prompt-and-response agents, MCP extensibility, Foundry Tools), and deploying with full ALM, telemetry, responsible AI, and security.

AB-100 is breadth-heavy and architecture-first. It validates that you can analyse business requirements and recommend agentic patterns, decide build-vs-buy across Foundry / Copilot Studio / prebuilt agents, design multi-agent solutions using Agent2Agent (A2A) and Model Context Protocol (MCP), orchestrate Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales / Service and Dynamics 365 AI, and define ALM, governance, and audit trails for agents and AI models. Expect scenario questions that hand you a multi-system enterprise architecture and ask you to recommend the right primitive, the right deployment slot, or the right control.

Microsoft published the AB-100 skills outline in May 2026. Every question in Azure Mastery's AB-100 bank is mapped to the current outline — including the new MCP extensibility, Computer Use, agent feed, and DSPM-for-AI topics. Read the official outline at learn.microsoft.com.

AB-100 exam objectives

Three domains, weighted by Microsoft's May 2026 release outline. Every domain summary below is paraphrased from the official skills outline; bullet-level objectives in Azure Mastery are tagged so you always know which domain you're being tested on and where your weak spots cluster.

Plan AI-powered business solutions25–30%

The strategy and requirements layer. Analyse requirements for AI solutions (agent use cases, grounding-data quality, organisation of business data), design the overall AI strategy using the Cloud Adoption Framework's AI track, choose between custom agents and extending Microsoft 365 Copilot, design multi-agent solutions across Copilot Studio / Microsoft Foundry / Microsoft 365 Copilot, define prompt-engineering guidelines and AI Center of Excellence elements, and produce an ROI analysis (total cost of ownership, build/buy/extend trade-offs). Around 10–18 questions per sitting.

Design AI-powered business solutions25–30%

The architecture layer. Design business terms and customisations for Copilot in Dynamics 365 customer experience and service apps, design task / autonomous / prompt-and-response agents, propose Foundry Tools and code-first generative pages, design topics with fallback in Copilot Studio, design extensibility with Model Context Protocol (MCP), design Computer Use to automate apps and websites, design agent behaviours including reasoning and voice mode, and orchestrate prebuilt agents across Dynamics 365 finance / supply chain / customer experience plus Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales and Service. Around 10–18 questions.

Deploy AI-powered business solutions40–45%

The largest domain — production and governance. Analyse, monitor, and tune AI solutions (telemetry, agent metrics, model performance), design the testing strategy (validation criteria for custom AI models, end-to-end scenarios spanning multiple Dynamics 365 apps), design the ALM process for data / Copilot Studio agents / Microsoft Foundry agents / custom AI models, and design responsible AI, security, governance, risk management, and compliance — model security, prompt-manipulation mitigations, data-residency compliance, access controls on grounding data, and audit trails. Around 16–27 questions.

How Azure Mastery helps you pass AB-100

Azure Mastery ships with 345 AB-100 practice questions, every one written specifically against the current (May 2026) skills outline — not generic AI trivia. Each question carries a domain tag mapped to the official three domains (Plan, Design, Deploy), so you always know which area you're being tested on and where your weak spots are clustered. Foundry-Tools comparisons, Copilot-Studio MCP extensibility scenarios, Dynamics 365 Copilot orchestration trade-offs, and responsible-AI / ALM governance questions appear throughout — matching the architecture-style format of the live exam.

The on-device Exam IQ engine predicts your AB-100 score before you sit the exam. After roughly 30 questions it has enough signal to give a confidence-scored prediction (e.g. "786 ±37, 68% confidence") — and tells you the specific topics that are dragging your readiness down. No vague "study more" advice; just a ranked list of objectives where improvement would move your score the furthest.

The adaptive study plan rebuilds itself from your answer history. Get a multi-agent design question wrong? The engine surfaces another question in the same domain in your next session. Master a topic across three sessions and it backs off, prioritising the next-highest-leverage gap. The plan optimises for the gap between where you are and the 700 pass score, weighted toward Deploy because it's the heaviest (40–45%) domain — not for blind volume.

Knowledge decay tracking matters more for AB-100 than for narrower exams — the cert spans the entire Microsoft AI surface, and the Foundry-Tools nuance you mastered four weeks into your study window is exactly the kind of detail that will fade by exam day. Azure Mastery tracks every topic's decay curve and flags topics approaching expiry. The padlock icon on the Today screen is your "revisit before you forget" cue, and weak-spot drills automatically pull from decayed topics first.

Real exam simulation mode runs at AB-100's actual length and time pressure: a randomised 40–60-question set drawn from the full 342-question bank, weighted by domain percentages from the May 2026 outline, with the 100-minute timer running and no jumping back to flag-and-review. It's the closest you can get to the live Pearson VUE / online-proctored experience without sitting the exam.

Everything runs on-device. Your answer history, your readiness gauge, your decay alerts — none of it leaves your iPhone or iPad. No account required to start, no tracking, no sync server. Privacy-first by design.

10-week study plan

Suggested AB-100 study plan

Most candidates pass AB-100 after eight to twelve weeks of focused study, depending on hands-on experience with Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, and Dynamics 365 Copilot. The ten-week plan below maps onto the three AB-100 domains (weighted toward Deploy at 40–45%), Azure Mastery's adaptive sessions, and the in-app exam simulator. Adjust pace to taste — the readiness gauge tells you when you're done, not the calendar.

  1. Plan AI-powered business solutions

    • Week 1: Requirements analysis — agent use cases for task automation, data analytics, and decision-making; grounding-data review (accuracy, relevance, timeliness); organising business data for AI consumption.
    • Week 2: Overall AI strategy — Cloud Adoption Framework for Azure (AI track), multi-agent solutions across Microsoft 365 Copilot / Copilot Studio / Microsoft Foundry, build-vs-buy-vs-extend, prompt-engineering guidelines, AI Center of Excellence.
    • Week 3: ROI analysis — total cost of ownership, build/buy/extend trade-offs, Dynamics 365 multi-app AI scenarios.
  2. Design AI-powered business solutions

    • Week 4: Design agents and AI — Dynamics 365 customer experience/service Copilot customisations, task / autonomous / prompt-and-response agents, Foundry Tools, topics with fallback in Copilot Studio.
    • Week 5: Extensibility — custom models in Foundry, agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot, MCP-based extensibility, Computer Use, agent behaviours including reasoning and voice mode.
    • Week 6: Orchestrate prebuilt agents — Dynamics 365 finance/supply chain, customer experience/service, Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales / Service, Power Platform AI Hub, model routing.
  3. Deploy AI-powered business solutions

    • Week 7: Analyse, monitor, and tune — agent-monitoring tools, backlog and user-feedback analysis, telemetry interpretation, model-performance metrics.
    • Week 8: Testing — agent test strategy and metrics, validation criteria for custom AI models, end-to-end scenarios across multiple Dynamics 365 apps, prompt best-practices validation.
    • Week 9: ALM, responsible AI, security, governance — ALM for data / Copilot Studio agents / Foundry agents / custom AI models / Dynamics 365 AI; agent and model security; prompt-manipulation mitigations; responsible-AI review; data-residency compliance; access controls; audit trails.
  4. Sharpen, simulate, schedule

    • Week 10: Run Focus Weak Spots every morning, then two end-to-end Exam Simulator runs at full 100-minute length. Schedule the exam when readiness gauge is 740+ with reasonable confidence — AB-100 punishes a single weak domain.

Frequently asked

AB-100 FAQs

How much does the AB-100 exam cost?

The AB-100 voucher is USD $165 in the United States. Pricing varies by region — in the UK it's typically around £128. AB-100 is a senior architecture exam, so Microsoft rarely discounts it in free-voucher promotions; if a voucher comes up via Microsoft Build or Microsoft Ignite, grab it. The credential also requires annual renewal (free, online), so factor that into long-term cost planning.

Does the AB-100 certification expire?

Yes. Microsoft specialty and associate certifications including AB-100 expire annually. Renewal is free — a 25–30 question online assessment on Microsoft Learn within the six-month window before your expiration date. The renewal targets recent skills outline updates (Foundry models, Copilot Studio MCP features, Dynamics 365 Copilot orchestration), so staying current is straightforward if you remain broadly active in agentic AI architecture work. (Fundamentals certifications such as AB-900 are different — those don't expire.)

What is the AB-100 retake policy if I fail?

The first retake is allowed after 24 hours. Second and third retakes each require a 14-day wait. Microsoft caps retakes at five attempts per 12-month rolling period. Each attempt requires a new voucher purchase. AB-100 has a low public pass-rate among candidates because it spans the entire Microsoft AI surface (Foundry, Copilot Studio, Dynamics 365 Copilot, MCP, A2A) — invest in the readiness gauge rather than rebooking blindly.

How long should I study for AB-100?

Most candidates pass AB-100 after eight to twelve weeks of focused study, assuming hands-on experience with at least one of Copilot Studio, Foundry, or Dynamics 365 Copilot. If multi-agent orchestration is genuinely new to you, plan for three to four months — the exam expects you to design end-to-end agentic-first solutions, not just describe concepts. Azure Mastery's readiness gauge tells you when you're at exam-ready; don't book until it shows roughly 740 or higher with reasonable confidence.

AB-100 vs AB-620 — which agent cert should I take?

Different roles. AB-620 (AI Agent Builder) is the maker-level cert focused on building agents in Copilot Studio — topics, generative answers, knowledge sources, channels. AB-100 (Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect) sits above it: it expects you to architect multi-agent, cross-platform solutions that span Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, Dynamics 365 apps, and Power Platform — plus ALM, governance, ROI analysis, responsible AI, and security. AB-620 first if you're building agents day-to-day; AB-100 if you're leading the architecture decisions across teams.

AB-100 vs AI-102 vs AI-103 — how does it fit with the AI engineer track?

AI-102 and AI-103 are code-first developer / engineer certs (Python / .NET, Azure AI Foundry SDK, agent code). AB-100 is the architect-level cert that spans the entire Microsoft AI surface — including Foundry, but also Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Dynamics 365 Copilot, prebuilt agents, and Power Platform AI. If you write code, do AI-103 first then AB-100 to round out your architecture skills. If you lead enterprise agentic AI strategy, AB-100 is the headline credential.

Where AB-100 fits

Certification paths that include AB-100

AB-100 sits at the top of Microsoft's agentic AI track — the architect-level credential for solutions that combine Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, Dynamics 365 Copilot, and Power Platform AI. Microsoft recommends entering via AI-901 (AI Fundamentals) and AB-620 (AI Agent Builder) before sitting AB-100. Tap any linked exam below to see its dedicated study app page.
